Bill Samuels Launches Campaign to Innovate and Reform Albany with Radio Series on 2017 Constitution Vote

Samuels’ “Effective Radio” Show Seguing to Monthly 2-Hour Special Aimed at Enacting Bold Statewide Policy Changes and Educating New Yorkers about “People’s Convention”

Progressive activist Bill Samuels announced today that his weekly radio show on AM970 The Answer “Effective Radio” will relaunch on the evening of November 30, 2016 as a special two-hour-long monthly series devoted to enacting bold statewide policy changes and educating the public about the 2017 New York State Constitutional Convention vote.

The 12-part series will run up to the November 2017 referendum vote and each episode will focus on major potential policy changes in areas including the environment, education, healthcare, government reform, economic development, the empowerment of cities, criminal justice, and equal rights.

“Whether you are for or against a People’s Convention, the November 2017 vote is a remarkable opportunity to inspire a robust and innovative dialogue about what rights we believe we should have as New Yorkers and what policies we want to be part of the bedrock of our state,” said Bill Samuels. “Our new radio show will be a unique platform for the exchange of ideas and the building of a movement for profound, positive change.”

Debuting last October, Effective Radio has aired for the past year as a one-hour talk radio show focused on New York politics and government, hosted by Samuels and Morgan Pehme, the executive director of EffectiveNY, the think tank and watchdog group Samuels founded. It has regularly featured marquee guests including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, former U.S. Senator Gary Hart, New Yorker columnist Ken Auletta, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Ron Reagan, and made headlines in publications such as The Guardian, The Washington Post, Politico, Buzzfeed, New York Daily News, Albany Times-Union, and State of Politics.

The aim of the new monthly “Effective Radio” series is even more ambitious, because rather than just commenting on important policy issues, Samuels will propose and highlight innovative reforms and then seek to move the state Legislature to act upon those recommendations. At the same time, the show will raise awareness about what Samuels has branded a “People’s Convention”, so that New Yorkers understand if their elected representatives fail to enact their priorities they have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bypass Albany and take power into their own hands.

Samuels and Pehme will be joined on the new monthly “Effective Radio” by popular AM970 radio personality Frank Morano, who will serve as a co-host and producer of the series. The first episode will air live on AM970 from 7-9 p.m. on November 30th.

AM970 reaches the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Nassau County, and beyond and is owned by Salem Media Group, one of America’s largest radio providers, with 112 stations—65 of which are in the nation’s top 25 markets and 30 in the top 10—plus 2,000 affiliates of the Salem Radio Network.

In addition to airing live, “Effective Radio with Bill Samuels” is available as a podcast on the station’s website:
